Featured in the News: A Legacy of Clean Water and Hope

We were recently humbled to come across an article in a Ukrainian online news outlet featuring the work CLDI is doing in southern Ukraine. The article highlighted a water filtration system we installed at a local church—a project that has become a critical lifeline for the community.

A Critical Need Met
The scope of the need in this city is hard to overstate. As the article noted, this single water filter is currently the only source of free, clean drinking water for 46,000 people. Day after day, residents come to the church to fill their bottles, finding not just physical refreshment, but a place of peace amidst the chaos of war.

The Story Behind the Gift: Remembering Steve
The news article included a photo of me standing in the church with the local pastor. The caption underneath read: “Craig Ludrick tells the story about his friend Steve.”

That moment captures the heart of this ministry. The clean water flowing today is the direct result of the generosity of my dear friend, Steve Niemeier. Before he passed away on April 9th, Steve donated $40,000 to help the people of Ukraine. He wanted to make sure that families he would never meet were cared for.

A Legacy That Lives On
Throughout my travels in Ukraine this summer, I made it a point to share Steve’s story at every church I visited. I wanted the people to know that they are not forgotten.

The reaction was always the same: people were deeply touched. In a time of isolation and fear, hearing about Steve—a man from halfway across the world who cared enough to give so generously before he died—brought tears to many eyes. It encouraged them to know that there are people like Steve standing with them.

Steve is with the Lord now, but his legacy is alive and well in southern Ukraine. Every cup of cold water given in Jesus’ name is a testament to his heart for others.

Leave Your Own Legacy

The need for clean water remains urgent in many frontline cities. You can help us install more systems like the one Steve funded. Your gift today provides health, hope, and a tangible witness of God’s love.
